Project Overview
Department: MPE & Module Engineering Lab
Addressing thermal challenges is crucial for operation of modern electronics. Our thermal research team is developing various technological solutions that support thermal management of high-performance electronic equipment, from natural convection to active liquid cooling. The validation of these solutions relies on precise and repeatable experimental data.
The primary objective of this thesis project is to design, implement, and validate an automated experimental system for the thermal characterization of electronic cooling solutions.
The student will be responsible for the end-to-end development and practical implementation of a Python-based software that interfaces with our lab equipment. The project will focus on automating tests for various thermal management solutions (exact type of experiment we will select together with successful candidate based on their field of interest and expertise).
The core of the work involves creating a script-based system capable of automatically managing power delivery and acquiring critical performance data from various sensors, as well as practical implementation of it in connection to the hardware setup.
Thesis project work will be in close contact with our international team, offering an excellent opportunity to apply academic experience in an industry relevant environment.
Your Profile
- MSc student with strong background in thermodynamics and heat transfer
- familiar with experimental methods
- Ability to program, preferably in Python
- An understanding of fundamental heat transfer and fluid dynamics principles
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with electronic measurement equipment (e.g., DAQs, power supplies, sensors)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- A background in experimental work is considered a strong advantage
Application Process
The project starts early 2026, and the applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The candidates should apply by sending their CV and academic transcripts to a contact below.
