About the Project:
Department: Wireless Baseband Lab
Matrix multiplication is central to many AI models, but its computational complexity makes it difficult to achieve real-time, energy-efficient inference. This thesis will explore how traditional matrix multiplication in deep learning models can be replaced with lookup tables (LUTs), aiming to drastically reduce computational complexity while maintaining model accuracy. The idea is to precompute matrix multiplication and store the results in a table, enabling fast access during inference and significantly reducing the number of calculations required. The challenge is to replace expensive matrix multiplications without incurring prohibitive memory costs and sacrificing accuracy. The research will focus on memory optimization, table construction, indexing strategies, and efficient data access mechanisms.
Timeline
Given our current project schedules, we are looking for master’s students available to start in spring 2026.
Qualifications & Skills
- Background: deep learning, machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), and AI model optimization techniques.
- Communication: Strong command of English, both spoken and written.
- Team & Independence: Capable of working effectively both in teams and independently.
- Commitment to Quality: High attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality work.
- Desirable Experience: wireless communication, signal processing, 5G/NR.
