Thesis description
Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) offers a combination of advantages from planar microstrip technology and metallic waveguides such as, low insertion loss, high-Q factor, and easy integration with on-chip platforms. However, the physical size of SIW is relatively large as compared to microstrip technology at microwave frequencies. This thesis will investigate to design a tunable filter based on SIW technology with metamaterials, or defected ground structures, or plasmonic (such as, spoof surface plasmon polariton) technologies to reduce the phase velocity (slowing the wave) of an incoming wave, which in turn helps in the miniaturization of device. The aim is to miniaturize the longitudinal dimension which is comparable with the state-of-the-art available filters.
